ABOUT SENTIMENTAL ANIMAL:
Feelings, that ineffable matter that inspires poets and artists in so many other areas, are treasures that weigh only in the soul. Mísia knows this well. This female artist, dreamer fado singer, actress, teller of her own and other people’s stories, is the first to admit that she is a sentimental animal. The expression serves as the title of a new album, a new chapter in a career that spans three decades and has wide international recognition. This acclaimed path now leads her to an ambitious new project guided by herself and by Wolf-Dieter Karwatky, an award-winning producer and engineer with a 50-year career that has worked with some of the biggest names in classical music, collected Grammys and added successful projects stamped by Deutsche Grammophon. In Lisbon, Karwatky recorded with Mísia and a series of experienced musicians at the historic Namouche studios, including the pianist Ricardo Dias, who took over the musical direction and arrangements. Also participating in the project were the pianist Fabrizio Romano, the guitarists Bernardo Couto (Portuguese guitar), Bruno Costa (Coimbra guitar), Bernardo Viana (fado viola), Luís Ferreirinha (viola) and also the bassist Daniel Pinto. They are the ones that can be heard in a careful line-up that combines new arrangements to songs that Mísia had already sung in the past, but also some surprises: “Qué He Sacado Con Quererte” by Violeta Parra will be one of them, as well as “De Alguna Manera”, a song in Spanish with words and music by Luis Eduardo Aute that Mísia had already sung, but here it gains a new life. “Fico a Cismar”, an original by Rodrigo Leão, also falls into that exciting category of surprises that keep us hooked on Mísia’s voice.
And then there are the words, chosen with the care of those who seek in the poets those translators of the deepest feelings. Here are sung Tiago Torres da Silva and Fernando Pessoa, Mário Cláudio and Natália Correia, Vasco Graça Moura and Lídia Jorge, giants of our lyrics, all of them.

To each of the pieces, Mísia gives herself unreservedly, taking each song as a mirror that reflects those such feelings that carry her and that she herself carries, denoting a singular interpretative intelligence, refined by a serious artistic stance that has always set her apart. On the cover, this singular side, captured by the French painter Anne-Sophie Tschiegg, because only an artist can show the true face of another artist.
This album is part of an ambitious triptych: In addition to Animal Sentimental, Mísia also intends to transpose her stories and experiences into a book which, she guarantees, will be made of poetic episodes and comic and sentimental moments, of small tragedies of a long life path that goes back to childhood memories and which, from 1991 onwards, began to be fixed in records of growing success and artistic ambition; and there will also be the concert, the opportunity to take all this – the stories and the songs, the feelings, of course, onto a stage, after all, the natural habitat of any sentimental animal.
